Poker Bankroll Management-Long Term Profits

Why use a bankroll management strategy? Well if you're just playing for shits and giggles, BRM is probably something you don't need to worry about. But if you're looking to make a profit from poker, whether it be to just move up in stakes, for a little extra spending cash, or to make a living, managing your bankroll properly is key to controlling your profits and minimizing your losses.

A good BRM plan will increase the overall health of your poker bankroll 3-fold:

  1. It will increase your short term profits - Different players see it different ways, being "on fire," running hot, getting lucky, playing well, or opponents are playing bad. No matter how you look at it, when you're winning, you're winning. What the bankroll management strategy allows you to do is to move up in stakes as long as you are winning. By moving up in stakes, the amount you are winning continues to increase, thereby striking while the iron is hot and growing your bankroll as quickly as possible
  2. It will decrease and limit your losses - When things aren't going well at the tables, for whatever reason, having a solid poker bankroll management strategy will prevent you from losing too much. You will never be at risk of losing your entire bankroll. When you're losing, you will automatically move down in stakes when your losses bring your bankroll to a certain level. You'll play down in lower stakes until the game turns back around in your favor.
  3. It will increase your long-term profits - By simply cashing in on the hot runs by moving up when you're hot and moving down in stakes to minimize losses when you're losing, your overall profits will show a much steadier increase over the long run.
