Holdem Bankroll Management
By Mrs. Sinner
Q: Should I use a different bankroll management strategy for Texas Hold'em than I would for Omaha or Stud games?
A: There is no simple yes or no answer here. It all really varies from person to person. The exact bankroll management strategy that you use will be most profitable if it is based on how you play.
To put it simply, if you are very profitable in Texas Holdem SNGs, finishing ITM over 2/3rds of the time, then you could take a more aggressive stance in your BRM strategy. If you aren't doing as well in Omaha SNGs, say only cashing in 1/3rd of your games, you will want to take a much more conservative approach to your BRM.
Try setting up a spreadsheet and tracking your next week or month worth of games, recording things such as the type of game played, prizes / payouts, number of competitors, your finishing place, and amount won. You may also be able to spot patterns in your own play by loggin more details such as mood, types of players at the table, date, day, and time of games played, although these stats are not necessary for developing your own custom
poker bankroll management strategy.
In games where you have a high winning percentage and high profits, you can afford to take a more high risk/high reward approach to bankroll management, requiring only 15-20 buy-ins in your bankroll. In games where you are struggling a bit more, you may want to take a more balance approach of roughly 25 buy-ins, or even a more conservative approach of 30-40 buy-ins if your profit margin is very slim.
